I just bought a Sony Cyber-shot 9.1-Megapixel Digital Camera, it comes with a lens hood and lens adapter ring that you’re supposed to hook onto the lens. What is the purpose of these?

I have a 50mm manual lens and a 50mm auto lens. I have read that if I reverse the manual lens I can use it for macro photography. I have also read that if I couple the reversed manual lens on top of the auto lens it acts as a diopter and I can also use it for macro photography.

I have a Panasonic TZ7 camera, which I’ve had for nearly a year and some small scratches are appearing at the centre of the lens from the lens cover rubbing on it. The lens cover is extremely close to the lens when it opens and shuts. Is this a common problem? How can I fix this?
