DigitalRev Lens Image Stabilisation Video Test

Recently, we got a letter from some guy asking us whether Image Stabilisation on a lens really improves the stability of the movies that he wants to make. What’s more, he plans to put his HDSLR on the front of his car, so he wants to know how it will perform when used with a reasonably fast moving object. As we don’t like to come up with simple “yes” or “no” answers, we’ve devised a rather not so simple test. Watch the video to find out what happens.

Chris Nolan has given his reasons for the lack of 3D in The Dark Knight Rises – and the whole of his Batman trilogy – saying that there’s no need for the format, as films are 3D already. Speaking to the Director’s Guild of America about his upcoming superhero opus and the rest of his career, Nolan explained why he wasn’t a fan of 3D, even though the studio would have been more than happy for The Dark Knight Rises to be shot in this way. “Warner Bros would have been very happy, but I said to the guys there that I wanted it to be stylistically consistent with the first two films and we were really going to push the IMAX thing to create a very high-quality image,” said Nolan. “I find stereoscopic imaging too small scale and intimate in its effect. 3D is a misnomer. Films are 3D. The whole point of photography is that it’s three-dimensional.” Opinion Fox: Glasses-free 3D ‘could stunt’ format’s growth 3D is hard to embrace He does note that 3D has its place but just not in movies. “The…

soelin posted a photo: I’ve been shooting with the 60mm f/2.4 lens for a week and I am very pleased with the results. The build is as good as the 35mm lens, and the hood is quite big. The filter thread is 39mm, similar to many Leica lenses’. I haven’t bought any UV filters as I find using the hood just fine to protect the lens. I’ve update the lens firmware to v1.02. I don’t hear the chatter that I heard with the v.1.01. Focus speed is slightly slower than 35mm f1.4, but, not so significantly so, IMO. Ever since I’ve learned that you can just press the shutter all the down to focus and take photo all at once, instead of doing the usual press shutter-half-way to focus technique, I’ve been getting more keepers. Image quality-wise, it’s comparable to the 35mm f/1.4, though in lab tests, I’ve read the 60mm is better. But, to me the IQ is about the same. Macro-mode is so-so. It’s very slow to focus. It’s not 1:1. Olympus’ new 12-50mm macro works better. Leica D-Lux series and Ricoh GRD…
